Appointment of Executive Chief Nurse
Welcome
Thank you for expressing an interest in the Executive Chief Nurse post at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHSFT, and the chance to join our Board during one of the most challenging and transformational times in our history.
As an organisation, it is our mission to be ‘a great place to be cared for; a great place to work’. We know that this has not always been the experience of our patients and colleagues, and it is for this very reason that we continue to strive to improve – and sustain these improvements – for the future of our local populations, for years to come.
To help us to do this, we are receiving mandated support from NHSEI’s Recovery Support Team as part of the Strategic Oversight Framework arrangements. Our Recovery Support Programme (RSP) has been established to create lasting improvements in our approach to quality and safety, to provide clinical and financial sustainability, and to embed these within an organisational culture and leadership model focused on patients-first. Our RSP will be underpinned by a credible and compelling clinically-led Clinical Service Strategy and a revised operating model, all of which our new Executive Chief Nurse will be central to.
The role of Executive Chief Nurse is an exciting, challenging role at the heart of our organisation and integral to the above mission. As an Executive Director, you will provide inspirational and visible leadership in pursuit of our vision to provide the highest possible standards of compassionate care; the very best patient and employee experience; and to listen to and involve patients, employees and carers. You will also provide strategic advice to the Trust Board on all medical issues and priorities and ensure that these are incorporated into the Trust’s clinical business strategy and performance management arrangements.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to play a part in a once-in-a-generation investment in a new hospital through the Government’s New Hospitals programme.
For the leadership of UHMB, this is a rare chance to shape the future of our clinical services for the benefit of our patients and communities, ensuring they are underpinned by first class clinically-led facilities, best-in-class quality, safety and governance processes, and delivered by an outstanding professional workforce who embody the values and just culture we are developing.
Like all NHS organisations, we expect, and indeed are seeing, increased demand for our services, at the same time as having to respond to a changing healthcare economy. As such, we are working with our local and regional partners and stakeholders to reshape pathways to improve patient experience and offer faster access to the highest quality of care in the most appropriate setting, and this is where you come in. With the growing influence of our Integrated Care Boards (ICB’s), and local ‘Place’ partners, it is also an incredibly exciting time to join our team.
At the heart of our vision lies a deep commitment to people and patients; as part of our refreshed UHMBT Strategy, we set out aims for improved colleague experience through the development and delivery of a Colleague Experience Strategy. Central to this is the Behavioural Standards Framework and the Towards Inclusion approach, with the strategic intent to create a culture of joy, kindness and inclusion across Morecambe Bay. We are looking for an Executive Chief Nurse who embodies these values and who be capable of being both a skilled operations leader and board colleague who will role model and support positive and mutually respectful relationships at all levels of the organisation, championing inclusion and equality of opportunity.
Please take a few minutes to read the following information, which will give you further context for our organisation. May I take this opportunity to thank you once again for considering UHMBT and on behalf of the Trust Board, wish you every success.
