Your job

You will provide the leadership, drive, energy, and enthusiasm we need to bring our people and partners together to provide healthcare that meets needs, delivers exceptional clinical outcomes, and addresses the significant health inequalities present in the populations we serve. An inclusive and visionary leader, you will be a key player in the redesign of services across the system, enabling our patients to have access to the great care they deserve.

Our City

Liverpool has a proud history and an exciting future. During the pandemic, the city demonstrated unparalleled civic pride, community spirit and togetherness. We seek a leader who will build on this to shape and influence the future of healthcare in the city. As Chief Executive of one of the largest employers on Merseyside, with a £1.1bn annual turnover, you will have the opportunity to direct the significant role we play in Liverpool’s physical, social, and economic health. Our move into the new Royal hospital will highlight our contribution to research and innovation from the city’s Knowledge Quarter.

Our People

Our people are amazing. They live our values of caring, fair, and innovative, are hard-working and are committed to achieving our mission of providing outstanding healthcare for our patients. Staff have told us what they seek in a Chief Executive: someone who will empower and support them to provide great care; someone who will set the direction, expectations, and high standards for success; someone who will listen with compassion; and someone with a commitment to learning and continuous improvement. You will champion a culture where staff feel engaged, able to speak out, heard and supported.

The System

Partnership working is fundamental to the success of the Trust. Our partners want us to fulfil our potential by providing leadership on a place and system-level, reflective of our size and scale. You will build on our role as an anchor institution, reinforce the excellent relationships we have as a University Hospital Trust with our academic partners, and utilise opportunities to develop successful alliances throughout the development of the new Cheshire & Merseyside Integrated Care System (ICS).

The opportunity

For the right candidate who shares our values and our ambition, this is a truly career defining opportunity to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of millions of people. There are significant challenges to address, including pandemic-related operational pressures, merger benefits not yet realised, and a recent ‘Requires Improvement’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). However, the CQC has highlighted the caring, dedicated nature of our staff and their confidence in our improvement plan and recent leadership changes. We offer you the opportunity to build on this foundation, working with outstanding staff, an ambitious Board, and like-minded partners in one of the world’s most exciting cities.
