Paul Newcombe Director of Nurse Education

Welcome

The University of Roehampton is a relatively new provider of nurse education, with a rapidly growing reputation for quality and innovation. Nursing sits within the School of Life and Health Sciences which has a long history of excellence in health-related education and research. In line with the NHS Long Term Plan, our programmes focus on community and primary care nursing, and the parity of esteem between physical and mental health. We have grown considerably since opening our doors in 2019 and currently offer Adult, Mental Health and Children’s Nursing and the Nursing Associate apprenticeship across campuses in Roehampton and Croydon. We also offer an innovative dual field integrated Masters in Adult and Mental Health Nursing. We have grown from 3 academic staff to more than 30 and will have in excess of 600 students by 2022/23. We are currently building our 3rd Clinical Simulation Centre which represents £5 million investment. Our state-of-the-art facilities attract high quality students and staff and are the envy of many healthcare education providers.

Our programmes provide a pipeline of nursing professionals for local health and care organisations with graduates contributing positively to the healthcare workforce economy. We work with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure our courses meet the needs of the communities that they serve. Service user and carer involvement ensures this occurs meaningfully at a programme level. We also engage locally and nationally at a sector level to promote collaborative working and to influence healthcare education policy. We have attracted visits from both the Chair and Chief Nurse of Health Education England (HEE) and also the Chair of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). We have also shared our work at local and national conferences.

We are looking for like-minded, enthusiastic individuals who are keen to join us on the next stage of our journey. We offer a different working atmosphere from the large established nursing faculties. As the curricula are still evolving there are amazing opportunities to help influence and shape these exciting new programmes. With a rapidly growing portfolio, there are unparalleled opportunities for innovation and development. We are a team that is small enough to be intimate and friendly but big enough to ensure sufficient support is in place for staff at various stages of their academic career. We welcome applications from individuals who are interested in flexible arrangements such as shared or fractional posts.
